Prof. Lena Eliasson

Lena Eliasson is a Professor of Experimental Diabetes Research at Lund University, Sweden, and Deputy Coordinator of the Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC). She has been an active member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) for many years and was elected to its Board, beginning in January 2026. As a new Board member, she represents EASD on the Board of the Biomedical Alliance in Europe.

Her research focuses on the cellular mechanisms underlying impaired pancreatic islet hormone secretion and their role in diabetes pathogenesis, with particular contributions to microRNA biology and islet cell function. In addition to her research activities, Lena has held several leadership roles, including Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty at Lund University, and has extensive experience in research infrastructure development both at the university and nationally through SciLifeLab. She also serves in key evaluation and advisory roles, including Chair of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Committee at the Novo Nordisk Foundation and Secretary of the Swedish Diabetes Foundation.
