What we do

The BioMed Alliance brings together European medical and research societies to work collectively on policy issues that matter to researchers, clinicians and their patients.

The Alliance aims to bridge the gap between clinical practice and research on the one hand, and EU policy making on the other. We do this by informing our community on policy and legislative changes that are relevant to the healthcare and research sector and that will affect their work. At the same time, we also collect the feedback of professionals on the concrete situations and issues that they face, and share their input with policy makers to contribute to more evidence-based policy making.

Our work is structured around four strategic pillars that represent priority topics: improving health research policy, strengthening education, working towards a harmonised regulatory system, and addressing other common matters of interest to our members. Within these pillars, we work on a broad range of EU health policy and regulatory topics. These include funding for biomedical research, such as the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the European Health Data Space (EHDS), medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices (MDR/IVDR), clinical trials and Continuing Medical Education (CME), as well as other emerging issues relevant to our members.
