Annual General Assembly brings medical societies to Brussels

At the end of November, the BioMed Alliance organised 2 days of meetings for its members to discuss EU policies and regulations and ongoing and upcoming activities. A significant number of medical society representatives, including clinicians, researchers and policy officers, joined us in Brussels for a training day, a workshop on Global Health and discussions on governance.

On 27 November the Alliance organised a training day bringing together clinical experts and policy makers to teach clinicians how EU health policy making works, what health policies and regulations affect the work of clinicians and how they can contribute to the regulatory system for medical devices and medicines. A broad range of policies can have an impact on the health field, and during the training day we welcomed representatives of the EMA and the Commission and discussed the assessment of medical devices, IVDs, medicines, health technology assessment and digital health.

The next day we organised a workshop entitled from European Health Union to Global Health Improvement, and we looked at health from a more overarching perspective. Discussions focused on the role of Europe in global health, potential for improvement and challenges such as infectious diseases, tobacco use and alcohol use. Among the high-level speakers were representatives from The Lancet Regional Health – Europe, the European Commission, DG HERA and Medical Societies. We ended the General Assembly with a governance session on the 28th, which included presentations on recent activities and conversations on the future of the BioMed Alliance.
