New Statement on Building a Stronger European Life Science Sector

The BioMed Alliance has responded to the European Commission call for evidence on a new strategy for European Life Sciences expressing considerations of healthcare professionals and researchers.

Healthcare professionals and researchers urge policy makers to embrace health and biomedical research as a strategic investment, reinforce the current European Life Science sector and improve European Life Science attractiveness.

The statement includes the following recommendations:

    • Provide sufficient funding for health research to ensure protection of the health of EU citizens, ensure that European patients have access to novel health technologies and ensure that health and biomedical research remains a key driver for the economy.
    • Ensuring that the necessary building blocks are in place by supporting and providing resources in the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and providing support in the training of healthcare professionals and researchers.
    • Address bureaucratic and regulatory complexity by providing legal clarity on overlapping regulations and addressing administrative burdens and unnecessary bureaucracy.
    • Improve coordination in the system by providing robust governance, comprehensive health research and innovation structure that can provide guidance, leadership and coordination for health research in Europe.
